A striking new variety of this much-loved evergreen. Camellia japonica 'Femme Fatale' has large, dark red, double flowers which burst forth from February to April. There's no doubt this stunner's arrival will herald the changing season in spectacular style. Even better, the new foliage emerges in darker, rich bronze tones, taking on red-green hues as it matures and offering the anticipated 'waxy' sheen with gives camellia their opulent air. Camellia japonica 'Femme Fatale' is a smaller variety than many and reaches a maximum height of 1.2m with a spread of around 70cm - making it ideal for those of us with smaller spaces. Plant up in a container on a patio or balcony, alternatively create a low, focal point to the front of a shrubbery or border. Camellia japonica 'Femme Fatale' prefers moist, well-drained, neutral or acidic soil in a partially shaded spot with some shelter from chilling winds to protect newly formed buds. A fully hardy shrub which requires minimal pruning to look its best.
