Native to the meadows and slopes of the Swiss Alps, Aquilegia alpina is a compact beauty that will bring a vibrancy to your borders and pots. This is the original wild Columbine, appreciated widely and quite scarce to find now in situ. From May to June and sometimes longer, charming, vivid violet-blue, nodding blooms hover above ferny, lacy blue green foliage. Full of nectar these plentiful, generous flowers tempt busy bees and butterflies to stop and feast making your garden a wildlife haven, perfect for improving the environment. Incredible as a cut flower in vases, bouquets, and arrangements. This hardy perennial appreciates moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Delicate in appearance, Aquilegia are tough little chaps and very easy to grow - they are rabbit and slug resistant, tolerant of poor soils and readily self-seed, growing to a height of 45-60cm and a spread of 25-30cm.
