Tell Me More...
Penstemon are incredibly popular and understandably so; they have such an easy-going nature and an unbelievably long flowering period. There is even an international Penstemon society whose members are known as Penstemaniacs. With many blooms held on each wiry stem, above semi-evergreen, lush foliage, thirsty nectar-loving insects will visit for a treat while slugs, rabbits, deer and other garden pests tend to steer clear. Collection comprises; heterophllus 'Heavenly Blue' – a proliferation of blooms in hues of lilac, pink and purple over low mounds of blue-green foliage, height and spread 45-60cm; ‘Stapleford Gem’ – a profusion of almost tubular blooms which are mottled with delicate shades of mauve and pink, and a maroon striped white throat, height 60-75cm, spread 45-60cm; and Pensham 'Westminster Belle' – upright spikes of many tubular, purple flowers with white throats, height 70-80cm, spread 45-60cm. For best results grow in any fertile, well-draining soil in full sun or parti
