Seeming to glow, the glossy cordate foliage creates a dramatic backdrop for a late-summer floral display, long after many other flowering aquatic plants have faded. Ideal in aquatic baskets, in a water garden, bog or at the margin of a pond where admiring bees, butterflies and dragonflies will linger. Handsome and heart-shaped, Pontederia Cordata is also known as Pickerel Weed. Pontederia are herbaceous perennials native to marginal aquatic areas in America. Clumps of ovate or lance-shaped green foliage are formed with spikes of flowers in summer. Pontederia Cordata has been given the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for outstanding performance in the garden.Pontederia Cordata prefers to be grown in shallow water, in a loamy soil, sun or part shade. Reaching a height of around 1.2m and spreading to 75cm, she is a hardy perennial with an RHS hardiness rating of H4.
