Polianthes tuberosa ‘The Pearl’ brings deciduous, narrow, lance-shaped leaves to frame an erect stem packed with a dense cluster, of up to thirty creamy white, double blooms! Flowers are highly fragrant and borne between July and September. What’s more, they are excellent as cut flowers for your home, so you can enjoy the scent inside too. Commonly known as the Polyanthus Lily, or ‘The Tuberose’, this beauty is a tender bulbous perennial whose fragrance is frequently used in perfumes. In maturity, Polianthes tuberosa ‘The Pearl’ will reach a height of around 70cm with a spread up to 15cm. Plants prefer to be situated in well-drained soil which is loam or sand based and benefits from full sun. With an RHS hardiness rating of H2, you can easily protect your bulbs over winter by planting in a large container and sinking that into the ground for spring and summer. Before the winter frosts arrive, the complete ensemble can be lifted and moved to a dry frost-free area without disturbing the bulbs.
