Polemonium reptans ‘Stairway to Heaven’ is an exciting variety with captivating variegated green and creamy-white foliage which is tinged by blushing pink during the cooler spring weather. Then, throughout April and May, foliage is topped by upright stems, holding clusters of light blue and white dainty, bell-shaped blooms. Plants form mounds of delicately textured foliage that emerges in March and is retained through to October, lending weed-suppressing groundcover. The enchanting common name, Jacob’s Ladder is drawn from the formation of the leaves, which are held as leaflets in opposite pairs to give stems a distinctive, ladder-like structure. This, coupled with the heavenly hues of the blooms, give this variety its full name. Plant Polemonium reptans ‘Stairway to Heaven’ in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from partial sun, however, can tolerate full sun. A hardy, herbaceous perennial which dies back below ground over winter and returns again the following spring.
