Tell Me More...
Exuding elegance and charm, Pleione formosana Alba will captivate with a touch of sophistication. Native to China and Taiwan, this half-hardy perennial is incredibly easy to grow, requiring very little maintenance or care, but will readily give you an exquisite springtime display of delicate, showy flowers. Each April to May, a large, solitary flower emerges. Spreading by offsets, you will soon have charming clumps of these attractive and unusual blooms. Quick to naturalise, and perfect for woodland and rock gardens, or containers. Pleione formosana Alba prefers to be grown in sharply drained, fertile soil, in a sheltered east or west facing aspect, in partial shade, where it will reach a height and spread of around 30cm. A half-hardy perennial to around -10°C, protect from excessive winter wet. Growing in containers will allow for plants to be overwintered indoors, in fact, Pleione is also happy as a houseplant year-round.
