Tell Me More...
Something of a 'new and improved' version of this North American perennial, Physostegia virginiana 'Miss Manners' is valued for its strong, bushy, clump-forming habit, as opposed to the spreading (sometimes a little invasive) nature of many other varieties. Bearing strong, more compact stems, meaning staking is rarely necessary. Spikes of showy, pure white, tubular flowers are borne from June until September, held above glossy, lance-shaped, toothed, deep green leaves. The flowers of physostegia are notable for their tendency to remain in a new position when moved or manipulated, hence the common name 'obedient plant'. This unusual quality makes flowers particularly useful for arrangers. Ideal for borders or containers, and excellent for attracting pollinators. Prefers fertile, reliably moist soil in full sun to partial shade. H&S: 75cm x 60cm. Hardy perennial.
