A new introduction from one of the top Persicaria breeders in Belgium, Persicaria amplexicaulis Red Baron has rapidly become one of the most popular. Long, wiry stems hold a plethora of small, bright-red flowers which form poker-like flowerheads for several months - from midsummer to early autumn, much to the delight of your local pollinating friends. Held above carpets of handsome, leafy, heart-shaped foliage which makes excellent weed-suppressing groundcover. In autumn, the green foliage gains golden yellow tints.Commonly known as Mountain Fleece, Persicaria is native to the Himalayas.Like all Persicaria, Red Baron is deer and rabbit resistant, happy in sun but prefers to be grown in moist soil in sun or part shade, also perfect for a bog garden, or near a pond. Reaching an approximate height of 100cm and spread of 80cm. Being a fully hardy perennial, Red Baron will flourish outside all year round with no extra winter protection required; dying back over winter to sprout again in spring.
