Tell Me More...
One of the most popular of the family, Penstemon 'Stapleford Gem' boasts a profusion of almost tubular blooms. Looking almost mottled with delicate shades of mauve and pink, the white throat which could have been hand-painted with maroon stripes. With many blooms held on each wiry stem, above semi-evergreen, lush foliage, thirsty nectar-loving insects will visit for a treat while slugs, rabbits, deer and other garden pests tend to steer clear.Reaching a mature height of 60-75cm and spreading to 45-60cm Penstemon 'Stapleford Gem' has been given the RHS Award of Garden Merit for outstanding performance in the garden. Best planted in moist, well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded spot, in borders or containers. Given an RHS hardiness rating of H3, some protection over winter may be needed if temperatures go below -5 C.
