Tell Me More...
The pearl-like Penstemon Mother of Pearl is a gem. Strong wiry stems drip with narrow, bell-shaped, pearly mauve blooms, with soft lilac and light pink tones plus a red-streaked throat. Almost iridescent, a stunning contrast against the attractive, green, semi-evergreen foliage, giving you a magnificent display from June to October, often longer. Penstemon are so easy to grow, a mainstay of the summer and autumn garden, and one of the longest blooming perennials. Incredibly hard working, Penstemon are oblivious of drought or rain and positively thrive in most soil conditions, in containers or borders, sun or part shade, and they propagate so easily. You will not need to battle against slugs and snails either, as Penstemon are not eaten by any garden pests but are much loved by bees. Being a hardy perennial, Penstemon Mother of Pearl does not require any winter protection in most of the UK and will reach a height of approximately 75-100cm, spreading to between 45-60cm.
