Truly a gem in the world of perennials. Penstemon ‘Mother of Pearl’ offers bell-shaped, pearly mauve blooms with a red streaked throat on strong wiry stems commencing in May and lasting to October. Almost iridescent, flowers are a stunning contrast to the attractive, verdant, semi-evergreen foliage. Penstemon are so easy to grow, becoming a mainstay of the summer and autumn garden as they are dependable and one of the longest blooming perennials. Incredibly hard working, plants are oblivious of drought or rain and positively thrive in most soil conditions, in containers, borders and gravel gardens. Even better, they are easy to propagate for more plants to swap with friends or spread through your garden. You will not need to battle against slugs and snails either, as penstemon are not eaten by any garden pests though they are much loved by bees. Plant Penstemon ‘Mother of Pearl’ in a spot which enjoys full sun or partial shade and benefits from any well-drained soil. A hardy (H4) perennial which does not require any additional winter protection in most of the UK and will reach a height of approximately 1m, spreading 60cm.
