Tell Me More...
Penstemon 'Etna' produces fiery spires of red trumpet-shaped blooms above a bed of rich green foliage. Clear white centres can be seen as the eye-catching flowers nod in the breeze.Flowering from May until October, Penstemon, also known as 'Beard-tongues', are some of the most valuable, versatile, and floriferous perennials you can grow in your garden. Deadhead blooms regularly to encourage flushes of colourful flowers which are great for picking.Thrives in moist, well-drained moderately fertile soil in sun or part shade in any aspect. Attracting bees and pollinators into the garden, Penstemon are deer and rabbit resistant and drought tolerant once established.Leave the semi-evergreen foliage on plants over winter to protect young growth and prune annually in spring to about 15cm above ground level. Propagate by division in spring or softwood cuttings in summer. H&S: 60cm x 60cmPenstemon 'Etna' is part of the 'Volcano' series of Penstemons - frost hardy (H4) perennials which can be grown outside in well-drained soil all year round. Mulching the base of your plants in autumn will give extra winter protection in colder areas.
