Tell Me More...
Penstemon Czar is one of the range of Pensham Penstemon, bred by the well-known breeder Edward Wilson. Unusually, large, plum-purple, foxglove-like blooms with clear white throats are held in clusters on tall strong stems for over six months every year. Adored by bumblebees, who will fly inside the bell-shaped blooms to enjoy the nectar.A bold and stunning contrast against the attractive, green, semi-evergreen foliage, you will have a magnificent display from June to October, often longer. Penstemon are so easy to grow, a mainstay of the summer and autumn garden, and one of the longest blooming perennials. Incredibly hard working, Penstemon are oblivious of drought or rain and positively thrive in most soil conditions, in containers or borders, sun or part shade, and they propagate so easily. You will not need to battle against slugs and snails either, as Penstemon are not eaten by any garden pests but are much loved by bees. Being a hardy perennial, Penstemon Czar reaches a height of 90cm, spreading to 60cm. and will not require any winter protection in most of the UK.
