If you are looking for an easy flower to grow, that blooms from early summer to late autumn and is not fussy about the soil then Penstemon ‘Pensham Amelia Jane’ is an ideal choice. With large, bright, cherry red, trumpet-shaped blooms with a white silky throat, 'Amelia Jane’ is one of the ‘Pensham’ group of penstemons which have been bred to survive lower winter temperatures and flower for longer periods, even through a cold autumn. Originally bred by the late Edward Wilson of Pershore Plant Raisers. He was a Penstemon breeder, with his wife Stella, for over twenty years in the village of Pensham, near Hayloft Plants. They received many accolades & awards for their work. Reaching a mature height and spread of around 90cm, Penstemon ‘Pensham Amelia Jane’ will grow in any fertile, free-draining soil in full sun to light shade and are happy in borders or containers. Deadhead spent flower-spikes to prolong flowering. Hardy to around -10°C, the foliage can be left on over winter, as protection, then cut back in spring when new growth starts to appear.
