Pennisetum alopecuroides Hameln Gold is a semi-evergreen, clump forming grass with new foliage emerging a golden, yellowish green then fading to a softer, lemony-green as the season progresses. Stems are initially stiff and upright but take on a graceful, arching habit as they mature. From August to September the tussock of leaves bears fluffy flower spikes which are frequently retained into autumn for extended enjoyment. Pennisetum alopecuroides Hameln Gold is the perfect choice for sensory gardens with its tactile stems and swishing movement. The flower stems are also fabulous cut or dried for inclusion in floral arrangements and the plant makes a great addition to prairie or wildlife gardens with its new and unusual colouration. Pennisetum alopecuroides Hameln Gold is a hardy perennial grass which may require some protection from the harshest of winter weather, dependent upon where you are in the UK.
