Tell Me More...
Marginal water plant perfect for aerating your shallow pondNative to marshlands, swamps, and stream banks in east and southeast USA, Peltandra virginica is a striking, exotic-looking aquatic perennial, bearing narrow, spear-shaped, strongly veined, glossy green leaves on tall, sturdy stems. This strong grower is quick to form dense, upright clumps, from which emerge narrow yellow or white flower spathes throughout May and June. These are followed by clusters of green berries, which can be an attractive source of food for ducks. Suitable for the muddy banks of a wildlife pond or bog garden, where its horizontal surface rhizomes can help stabilise soil. Prefers full sun, and a water depth of up to 20cm; best planted at the margins of a pond or in aquatic baskets of loamy soil. H&S: 60cm x 60cm. Hardy, aquatic perennial.
