Tell Me More...
The brightest and best way to aid your gardens transition from spring into summer. Papaver orientale Red Rumble blooms in May and June put on a scarlet extravaganza both in the ground and in containers. Beautiful and beneficial foliage emerges in March and disappears in June to appear again refreshed in late summer and is retained right through into early winter for long-lasting groundcover with large, fuzzy, thistle-like green leaves. Flowers are large and showy, each with papery petals and intriguing black centres that are sure to be noticed. The later seedheads also have aesthetic value - both cut and used in arrangements or left on the plant for interest later in the year. Perfect for weaving through a sunny border, extremely easy to grow, eager to naturalise and an invaluable source of nectar for pollinators. Papaver orientale Red Rumble prefers deep, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun and tolerates some shade. A fully hardy perennial which reaches a height of up to 90cm with a spread of 50cm. Cut back after flowering to encourage a second flush of blooms.
