Tell Me More...
Easy to grow with inky, grass-like foliageAn instantly recognisable plant, due to its distinctive, near-black, grassy foliage, Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens' is a clump forming evergreen with a gently spreading habit. Racemes of bell-shaped, pale purple flowers appear from June to August, giving way to glossy, dark blue-black fruit. This tough, durable, groundcover plant is an easy, low maintenance way to add intrigue and drama to border edges, rock gardens, or container displays. It can be used to provide striking contrast with other, brighter foliage plants, or planted en masse for a modern, minimalist style. A useful and unusual source of year-round structure. Prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acid, fertile, humus-rich soil in full sun or partial shade. For best results, mulch with leaf mould every autumn. H&S: 20cm x 30cm. Hardy, evergreen perennial.
