Sapphire blue, jewel-like blooms are suspended above fine, feathery foliage from June to August – adding a hazy, romantic delicacy to borders, containers and other displays. Just perfect as a cut flower – either fresh or dried – with amazing seed pods to follow which can either be left on the plant or cached away ready for new supplies next year. Nigella damascena ‘Miss Jekyll’ blooms are loved by bees and butterflies as well as anyone with a yearning for cottage garden style plants steeped in heritage. Commonly recognised as Love-in-a-Mist because flowers seem to be encased in a delicate mist which is made up of the feathery bracts and twirling tendrils from the stamen and seedpods. Plant Nigella damascena ‘Miss Jekyll’ in well drained soil of any kind except heavy clay. Position in full sun with a south or west facing aspect. A half hardy (H3) annual which reaches a height of 45cm with a spread of 30cm. Seed can be kept for the following year and plants may naturalise in situ, dependent upon where you garden in the UK.
