Nandina domestica 'Fire Power' is a trail blazer which will bring interest to the garden all year round. In spring, new, bamboo-like foliage emerges. Then, in summer, foliage is topped with clusters of white, star-shaped flowers which provide a stunning contrast to the lush foliage. After this, ornamental rose-hip-like berries follow in late summer and, as they mature, they become a rich, glossy red. In autumn, the triumphant finale of Nandina domestica ‘Fire Power’ begins with yellow, orange, red and deep claret trifoliate foliage putting on a dazzling display which is retained all winter. Known commonly as Heavenly or Sacred Bamboo – although it is not technically a bamboo - Nandina domestica 'Fire Power' is said to ward off evil spirits. So much so that the Chinese place plants either side of the front door so that only good spirits can enter the home. Best planted in a sunny position which enjoys moist, well-drained soil. Hardy to -15°C, H5 on the RHS scale, Nandina domestica 'Fire Power' will flourish outside all year round, reaching a mature height and spread of 50-60cm.
