Deep and delightful blooms, reminiscent of sunny skies, lend their luxurious colour and sumptuous perfume to the garden in March each year. Flowers are held in clusters, like upturned bunches of grapes, on strong stems which can be cut for a posy vase. Blooms are more open-mouthed than other varieties which makes the stems seem plumper and more generous. The strap-like, green foliage of Muscari azureum emerges in February is retained until May for extended interest. Plants are happy in containers although best planted in borders, rockeries and gravel gardens if you would like them to naturalise for more blooms and perfume each year. Also valuable as underplanting as they will grow in partial shade as well as full sun. Perfume has been likened to a cross between grape juice and freshly cut grass.Plant in moist, well-drained soil of any aspect. A hardy, bulbous perennial which reaches a height of 20cm and a spread of 10cm.
