Dramatic, late season interest is provided in two forms by Miscanthus sinensis 'Ferner Osten'. Not to be outdone by the tall, dense, sprays of silky, plum-coloured flowers, the leaves put on a show of their own with a magnificent display of autumn colour. For most of the growing season, the mound-forming, narrow foliage is blue green, however as autumn arrives, it turns many shades of orange, copper, and red. At a similar time, flowers mature to hues of pink and silver. A simply spectacular cultivar, good as both a free-standing specimen, or in a mixed or herbaceous border. Useful as a summer screening plant to create privacy within the garden. Flower heads will be more numerous following a long, hot summer. Prefers moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Protect from excessive winter wet. H&S: 1.5m x 1m. Hardy, deciduous perennial.
