Think a lack of an orchard or walled garden means no spring blossom or home-grown fruit? Think again. Our Mini Patio Fruit Orchard Collection consists of smaller varieties of pear, plum and sweet cherry - each grafted onto dwarfing rootstock to make them suitable for containers. Prunus avium 'Sylvia' has a naturally narrow, columnar habit ideal for a small space. It produces large, firm, dark red cherries in July, known for their superb flavour and good resistance to splitting. H&S: 3.5m (unpruned).Slender and upright, Prunus domestica 'Black Amber' bears tasty dark, purple-black plums with juicy, creamy yellow flesh in October time. H: 1.2m S: 60cm.The easy and reliable Pyrus 'Conference' is said to be the most widely grown pear variety in the UK. It produces a heavy crop of firm, sweet, juicy fruit in October. For best results grow in a large container, filled with a good quality compost and several handfuls of grit. Water regularly, allowing the top few centimetres of compost to dry out each time. Feed with tomato feed fortnightly throughout the growing season. Provide plants with as much sun as your space can offer, noting that 'Conference' is the most shade-tolerant of the three. Hardy deciduous trees.
