A rarely offered, south-east Asian woodland wonder, Meehania urticifolia originates from the damp, mountainous woodlands of Japan.Soft, green foliage with hairy undersides forms a lush semi-evergreen carpet, from which many wiry stems rise, each holding many open-mouthed, hooded, tubular blooms from May to October.Quickly spreading by stoloniferous roots, Meehania uriticifolia is so easy to grow, with virtually no maintenance required, and will create a dense, groundcover mat, just perfect for preventing those pesky weeks from taking control. The hooded, mauve-blue flowers are hermaphrodite, meaning have both male and female organs. Meehania urticifolia prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Growing to a height of approximately 30-45cm and spread of 90cm it is a fully hardy perennial, meaning you will enjoy it in your garden for many years to come without providing any winter protection.
