Meconopsis betonicifolia ‘Hensol Violet’ has vivid violet-purple flowers embellishing this lovely variety of Meconopsis. Though this type of poppy is widely known as the "Himalayan Blue Poppy", the violet colour lends a new and exciting alternative. The dark violet tissue-like petals look enchanting, especially when a light breeze catches the flower like a sail and the plant gently sways. From May to June, fuzzy stems bear large, silky, saucer-shaped, violet flowers. Meconopsis grow best where summers remain cool and damp, such as a moist, woodland garden, therefore preferring humus-rich, moist, well-drained, neutral to acid soil in partial shade. Ensure soil does not become water-logged during winter and shelter plants from harsh winds. Hardy (H4), herbaceous perennials which reach a height of up to 1.2m and spread up to 50cm. Lifespan will be lengthened by providing consistently moist conditions, holding back flowering until several crowns have formed and removing spent flowers before seedheads develop.
