Tell Me More...
An outstanding and award-winning magnolia, ideal as a specimen plant which will reach up to 6m in height and 4m spread over 20 years or so. Throughout April and May Magnolia 'Star Wars' produces large, fragrant, rosy-pink blooms on semi-bare stems. Blooms waft their light, sweet and fruity fragrance across the spring garden. Foliage is stunning too, with large glossy leaves appearing shortly after the blooms appear, right through until autumn. In maturity this large shrub or tree has a pyramid shape adding height and upward movement to your planting. As a species, magnolia are over 150 million years old and fossils prove that they are the first flowering plant on the planet! Evolving before the bees, they are pollinated by beetles who are drawn to their fragrance and edible tissues which hold the pollen. As a hardy shrub or tree Magnolia 'Star Wars' prefers moist, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade.
