Gently curving flower stems bear masses of white, star-shaped blooms from June to August each year. Little wonder how this sculptural beauty acquired the common name, as each flowerhead resembles an slender, elegant goose neck, bobbing above narrow, lance-like foliage. Leaves are held from March to October and emerge from clumps which die back over winter to re-emerge the following spring. Plants are native to East Asia and were originally brought to Europe for cultivation. Favoured by florists as a cut flower they add elegance and arching form to bouquets. Lysimachia clethroides holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding reliability and performance in UK gardens. Notably, the foliage turns vibrant orange-red in autumn adding a further flourish of interest.Shade tolerant, plants will add interest in areas where other perennials may struggle. Plants prefer humus rich, moist soil in either sun or partial shade. A hardy, herbaceous perennial which reaches a height and spread of up to 1m.
