A lesser known but incredibly versatile plant which will adapt to containers, borders, gravel and alpine gardens as well as pond edges! Lychnis viscaria ‘Cherry Bubbles’ is a new arrival for 2025 and comes in dwarf form at only 30-40cm in height and spread. Clusters of blooms are held in spherical drumsticks from May to August each year – offering bright shades of cherry pink accented by paler stamen. Despite its dainty appearance this is a tough and resilient little plant able to withstand almost any weather. With good reason it has the common name of ‘Catchfly’ as it uses sticky sap to grab hold of cheeky, non-pollinating insects who try to steal its nectar! Lychnis viscaria ‘Cherry Bubbles’ is a pollinator and wildlife friendly plant which likes a spot in any soil except that which is chalk based. Plant in full sun or partial shade with a south, east or west facing aspect. Fully hardy and herbaceous, ‘Cherry Bubbles’ will die back below ground in mid to late autumn, re-emerging the following spring.
