Luzula nivalis is an incredibly versatile shade-loving evergreen which is just as happy in a sunny position if the ground isn't too dry.A member of the 'rush' family, lush, green, grass-like foliage offers a ground-hugging habit ideal for planting in woodland scenes. Creating weed-suppressing clumps, tall stems rise in summer, holding dense, arching clusters of starry white flowers.Looking incredibly striking when in flower, from June to August, when planted 'en-masse', they really are a sight to behold, either in borders or in containers.Happy in a sunny or fully shaded position in moist, well-drained soil, Luzula nivalis will reach a height of up to 60cm, spreading to around 45cm. Divide from mid-spring to mid-summer if clumps become congested. Rating as H6 by the RHS, this evergreen perennial will withstand temperatures to around -20 C without winter protection.
