Tell Me More...
Thanks to an American horticulturist, these long-flowering hybrids have been around since 1890. The original, white-petaled blooms were said to be the colour of the snow on Mount Shasta in California. Today, there are many different varieties of Shasta daisies available.Your Leucanthemum superbum 'Real Glory' provides a clump of toothed, deciduous foliage. Strong-stemmed blooms, stretch above these dark green leaves between June and August. These beguiling, semi-double flowers offer a flurry of flat cream petals which slowly fade to white. A large golden eye at the centre of each bloom seem to expand as the frill of layered petals gradually flexes downwards. Bees and butterflies are enamoured by this glowing orb. Your garden come alives with activity when these hungry pollinators pop by to explore your daisies. These intriguing flowers will bring a buttery glow to your vases as well. Cutting back flower stems to the base when the blooms are spent further encourages a vigorous display.Your leucanthemum enhances a border, rockery or container with copious blooms. This drought-tolerant plant also proves to be a good source of weed-supressing ground cover. Choose an east, south or west-facing location with moist, well-drained soil for your hardy perennial. A position in full or part sunshine will encourage your Shasta daisy to flourish. When fully grown, this plant will reach a maximum height and spread of 65cm by 45cm.
