Tell Me More...
A modern twist on an old cottage garden favourite Lavatera clementii 'Barnsley Baby' offers upright, compact bushes of lush, green, heart-shaped foliage from February through to November. Shrubs bear large, 7cm hollyhock-like flowers from June to September - blooms are baby-pink with delicately veined petals and a dark pink-red base. This dwarf variety is related to the larger tree mallow 'Barnsley' and will branch beautifully bringing you a stunning display either in an herbaceous border or in a special container. Even better Lavatera clementii 'Barnsley Baby' is also perfect for patios and balconies where space is at a premium as it only reaches a maximum height of 1m, with a spread of up to 75cm. Long-lasting as a cut flower for a vase or floral display too. A cousin of the hollyhock family, and equally easy-going, Lavatera clementii 'Barnsley Baby is tougher than it appears and is happy in most soils providing it is situated in full sun with any aspect other than north facing. A hardy, deciduous shrub with an RHS hardiness rating of H4, protection will only be needed if temperatures dip below -10 C.
