Tell Me More...
Forget the usual annual Sweet Peas, the Everlasting Sweet Pea, Lathyrus latifolius Red Pearl is everything you could want in a climbing plant. Colourful, reliable, and easy to grow, Lathyrus latifolius is a perennial climber which gives you armfuls of cut flowers all summer long. Just cut them back in the autumn and they shoot again in the spring. Climbing a trellis, scrambling through a shrub or spreading across the ground, the racemes of pea-like flowers (which are unscented and beautiful) ,creates a gorgeous display. Bumblebees visit to pollinate the flowers and butterflies visit to feast on the nectar. Being leguminous, Lathyrus Red Pearl will put nitrogen back into the soil, which benefits surrounding plants. Lathyrus latifolius prefer to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Reaching a height of 200cm (6') and not requiring any protection during the winter months. Remember to collect the seed in order you can have more plants the following year.
