Native to Europe, western Asia and North Africa, Lamium maculatum ‘White Nancy’ makes a fabulous inclusion in shady areas, even the trickier dry spots under trees and hedges. Leaves are variegated, and form spreading carpets of bright, silvery foliage from March to November each year. The gentle, delicacy of plants offers magical, fairytale impact in borders, rockeries and wildlife gardens too.
A fast-growing perennial, Lamium maculatum ‘White Nancy’ is a close relative of the common stinging nettle, although with no sting (hence the common name). Leaves are downy and decorative with serrated edges and deep veins. In June to August delicate white, pea-like flowers are borne in whorls on strong stems reaching around 20cm tall. Flowers are immensely attractive to bees and other pollinators, whilst foliage brings beneficial protection for other wildlife and will spread to around 60cm.
