Delicate-looking, orchid-like, flowers are tougher and hardier than they look. Excellent as long-lasting cut flowers for your home, where you can admire them at a closer distance. Originating from the cold and dry mountainous areas of Turkey, Iraq and Russia, Iris reticulata are fully hardy, even pushing their way through a covering of snow. Happily naturalising if left undisturbed, they provide early emerging pollinators with a much-appreciated feast. Collection comprises; Iris reticulata ‘George’ AGM – deep violet-purple blooms with trademark yellow markings exude a delicate scent in March and April, height 20cm, spread 10cm; and ‘Polar Ice’ – a new introduction with glacial blue patterns which stud the crisp white flowers, accentuated by a bright yellow throat, blooms are produced from February to April, height 15cm, spread 10cm. Spring flowering herbaceous bulbous perennials, fully hardy to -20°C, the ‘Irresistible Iris Duo’ prefer to be planted in a sunny position in any aspect. Drought tolerant, they will happily naturalise if left undisturbed in both borders and containers.
