Tell Me More...
Originating from Central America, Ipomoea purpurea 'Grandpa Otts' is a magnificent heirloom variety. Slender twining stems hold heart-shaped, emerald-green foliage. Funnel-shaped violet-blue blooms which flare at the ends boast reddish pink markings, looking almost star-like. To the delight of nearby butterflies, new blooms are produced each day, from June to October, which close in the afternoon, hence the common name, 'Morning Glory'.A relative of the Sweet Potato, Ipomoea is a bushy vine grown for its dense colourful foliage, rather than the tuber it produces underground. Plant to tumble over the sides of your hanging baskets, window boxes, or pots adding months of interest. Can also be grown as weed-suppressing groundcover to soften edges with lush greenery. Very heat tolerant - thrives in full sun or part shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Ipomoea purpurea 'Grandpa Otts' is a tender perennial, usually grown in the UK as an annual, with an RHS hardiness rating of H1c. Seed can easily be collected to sow again the following year. Preferring a sunny spot in your garden, in moist, well-drained soil, it will reach a height of between 2.5-4m and spread 1.5-2.5m
