Tell Me More...
Spectacular, and eye-catching, Imperata cylindrica Red Baron is a wonderful ornamental grass which will provide colour, movement, and interest to your garden.Bright green, pointed, lush foliage becomes brilliant flaming crimson at the height of summer, fading to green at the base. Narrow, silvery-white flower spikelets are then produced in late summer.Native to Asia and Africa, where the foliage from Imperata cylindrica is woven into bags and mats and also used to thatch the roofs of traditional houses. Also known as Japanese Blood Grass, this beauty is equally as stunning in borders or containers.Attractive to butterflies whilst being deer and drought tolerant, Imperata cylindrica Red Baron prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. This hardy perennial grows outside all year round with protection required in only the very severest of winter cold, reaching a height and spread between 30-40cm (12-16"). The foliage will die back over winter to resprout in the spring.
