New and exciting varieties for 2025 – compact enough for a pot on a table or the edge of a patio as well as planting in open ground. Although short in stature, the ‘Ice-Cream Sundae Salvia Collection’ still bears large, open-mouthed blooms from May to October for a fruity-hued treat. Even better the aromatic foliage releases it herby scent when crushed or brushed past – so we suggest you plant in a spot where you can take full advantage of this.
Your collection comprises ‘Peach Melba’, ‘Strawberry Melba’ and ‘Raspberry Melba’. All are hardy (H4), semi-evergreen perennials which retain their herby foliage from February to November, or even year round in milder areas. Plant in well-drained soil of any kind except heavy clay and position in full sun or partial shade. All three will mature to around 50cm tall, with a spread of around 40cm. Able to withstand temperatures as low as -5 to -10°C without additional winter protection, take extra care if you garden in areas susceptible to frosts which are harder than this.
