Tell Me More...
Hydrangea serrata 'Koreana' is a delicate looking, but robust shrub which flowers from May to August in striking shades of pink or blue (as with many hydrangeas this is dependent upon the pH value of your soil). Flowers are flattened panicles with a lace-like appearance and grow up to 10cm wide. Foliage is deeply veined, and large leaves have attractive, serrated edges - they emerge green in March and then take on striking red tones before falling in autumn - offering the perfect backdrop to these familiar, yet unusual, blooms. This is a smaller hydrangea which has a maximum height and spread of 90cm, making it perfect for a balcony or courtyard container as well as at the fore of a border or low-growing hedge. This versatile shrub holds the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.Hydrangea serrata 'Koreana' is a mountain native which prefers to be planted in moist, well-drained soil. A hardy deciduous shrub which becomes dormant over winter and re-shoots the following spring, happy in either sun or shade.
