Hydrangea paniculata Polestar is the perfect patio plant, a new, compact, colour-changing beauty. One of the earliest hydrangea to start flowering in spring, the blooms open lime-white then mature through cream to blush-pink in summer, covering the compact lush green foliage. By early autumn the blooms have become a rich, rosy, red, even when grown in shade.Hydrangea have been in cultivation for centuries and are thought to be named in the 1700's because the shape was reminiscent of a water vessel, hence the words 'hydro' meaning water, and 'angeion' meaning pitcher.Hydrangea paniculata Polestar prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in part shade. Reaching a mature height and spread of around 60cm, the RHS have given a hardiness rating of H5, so should not require any winter protection in most of the UK in our average winter.
