One of the showiest in the family, Hydrangea paniculata 'Pastelgreen' is noted for its long flowering period. Masses of large, cone-shaped flowerheads are formed from blooms open from green buds in early summer, turning white, then through cream to green, and finally blush pink, giving months of harmonious hues through to October. When cut they make a fascinating addition to a cut flower floral arrangement.Lush, leathery, vibrant green foliage is held by strong upright stems, and turns fiery shades of red in autumn before falling for the winter.Hydrangea have been in cultivation for centuries and are thought to be named in the 1700's because the shape was reminiscent of a water vessel, hence the words 'hydro' meaning water, and 'angeion' meaning pitcher.Reaching a height of 1-1.2m and spreading up to 1m Hydrangea paniculata 'Pastelgreen' will thrive in both borders and containers, and is happiest in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. A fully hardy shrub with an RHS rating of H7 so will thrive even if temperatures dip below -20 C.
