Tell Me More...
A wonderful summer flowerer, Hydrangea macrophylla ‘So Long Sunny’ will bring colour to your garden from June to September, and often longer. Large, mop-head style flowerheads are formed by many smaller blooms, the large white petals are flushed pink with vivid pink, fringed and curled edges. The colours fade to rose-pink as they mature. If planted in an acidic soil containing alumina, blue tinges will appear, especially if treated with an additive of aluminium sulphate. Originating from Japan, this medium to fast growing hydrangea boasts light green leaves which turn yellow in autumn before dropping for the winter. A re-blooming variety producing flowers on the current years growth, so there is less fear of late spring frosts affecting the buds. Hydrangea macrophylla ‘So Long Sunny’ is happy to grow in borders or large containers, in sun or partial shade, in any soil type or aspect, as long as it is well-drained but reliably moist in summer. Hardy to around -20°C and happy in coastal
