Although smaller in stature than many hydrangeas, with a height and spread of around 1.5 metres, Hydrangea arborescens ‘Strong Annabelle’ offers a profusion of large flowerheads, up to 30cm wide, when it blooms from July to September time. Even better, flowers are held on sturdy stems which look wonderful in a vase and are retained, even when spent, through most of the autumn and winter – adding sculptural interest to the garden when it is often quite bare. A well branched variety which is less prone to flopping, despite the enormity of the flowers.
