Where to plant Araujia
Amaryllis are best planted in a well-drained of sand, loam or chalk within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. Amaryllis are best positioned in an area of full sun or part shade. Amaryllis are well suited to pots and containers and should be kept indoors as they are tender, positioned in a conservatory where they are kept in a light and airy environment.
How to plant Araujia
Amend the soil with equal parts of well-rotted manure, sand and leaf mould. Plant your bulb with the tip facing upward, with the point just above soil level. Plant firmly and compactly to secure into position and water well.
How to care for Araujia
Keep in a cool and light position when flowering to enhance and lengthen the flowering period. Continue to water thoroughly to keep soil moist but do not overwater. As the plant fades, remove the flower head at the top of the stalk. Feeding and watering should continue during active growth, especially if you wish to encourage repeat performance year after year, until the leaves turn yellow in summer. When dormant, store the bulb in a dark and cool position.
How to propagate Araujia
It is possible to propagate Amaryllis by seed. Fresh seeds should be sown in compost with a mixture of sand and grit. Start these off in small pots, increasing the size as they grow whilst retaining a warm temperature.
