Acer are best planted in a moist but well-drained, sand-based soil that has a slight acidic PH level. They are best positioned in an area of full sun or part shade. If you have a variegated Acer, then this will need to be kept in part shade so that it doesn’t get scorched by the midday sun. Acer are well-suited to planting in large pots or containers in any style and size of garden and will make a great structural and architectural feature.

How to care for Acers
Maintain most soil levels without the risk of overwatering. Apply a slow release fertiliser during the spring and early summer. Every 2 years or when deemed necessary, you should repot your Acer into a larger pot/container in April or September. Shelter the roots with a protective sheet or layer to protect them from winter frosts. Mulch every 2 years. Acer do not require regular pruning, but you may wish to prune them to improve their shape and appearance. This should be done when it is dormant to prevent sap bleed.
