Award-winning, crinkled foliage
Hosta ‘Wide Brim’ is one of the larger leaved hosta varieties. It has wavy-edged, heart-shaped leaves with blue-green interiors and haloes, or brims, in irregular stripes of creamy-yellow which will lighten and brighten the shadier parts of the garden. In June to July ‘Wide Brim’ produces spikes of open, tubular blooms in pale-lavender which act as a magnet for the pollinators.
Hosta ‘Wide Brim’ is mostly grown, however, for its gorgeous leaves and many gardeners prefer to remove the flower spikes as they appear. These flowers can be left to mature and open then cut as they make a marvellous inclusion in a bouquet or vase. Hosta ‘Wide Brim’ is a fully hardy, herbaceous perennial which is perfect as groundcover and will happily live in a container. Plants prefer a spot which benefits from moist, well-drained soil in partial to full shade. Plants have a height of 60cm with a spread of up to 1m.
