Tell Me More...
One of the great unsung heroes of the garden, heuchera is a low-growing, semi-evergreen perennial which thrives in light shade. Though useful for plugging gaps it is so much more than a 'filler' plant; its bold, colourful foliage often stealing the show (particularly during the winter months). Spring and summer are not without interest either, when tall, slender stems bear loose sprays of tiny pale flowers. We have chosen three very distinct varieties to showcase this quietly impressive plant. The tightly ruffled, bright green 'Apple Crisp' adds texture and zing; the softly rounded 'Berry Smoothie' matures with the seasons from metallic rose-pink to deep red-purple; and the large leaves of 'Georgia Peach' provide subtle silvery-orange tones. Heucheras are compact, well-behaved plants ideal for the front of a border or a container display. For best results grow in moist, well-draining soil in partial shade (though 'Apple Crisp' will tolerate full sun). These tough plants can withstand an exposed spot and are hardy to between -15 C and -20 C. H: 30-45cm S: 30-50cm.
