Tell Me More...
With its rich, intense foliage Heuchera Fire Chief is reminiscent of a fine burgundy wine. Large, curvaceous leaves are held in spreading mounds from February right through to November time - adding depths and drama to baskets, containers, borders and even gravel gardens. Then, commencing in June and lasting through the summer, strong, straight red stems of pretty, pink flowers are held - much to the delight of pollinators. Stems can be cut for a vase and have a similar impact to the florists favourite, gypsophila, bringing a lightness to your displays. We love the way it is possible to have such intense colour from leaves instead of flowers and this beauty is sure to take command, wherever you choose to plant it. Heuchera Fire Chief prefers a spot in moist, neutral, well-drained loam or sandy soil with sun or shade. Able to adapt to most soil types but do ensure that you have sufficient drainage if you garden on clay. A hardy perennial which overwinters well throughout most of the UK without any additional protection and reaches a height of 45cm, spreading up to 40cm.
