Tell Me More...
Frilly and beguiling, flouting winter's gloom These double-flowered cultivars add a subtle touch of glamour and frivolity to the otherwise muted elegance of hellebores. We have selected a collection of our absolute favourites, offering a range of colours and patterns to complement one another. From the deep, rich, dappled plum of 'Double Ellen Red', to the delicate hint of candy stripe found on 'Double Ellen Pink', to the decadence of 'Double Ellen Picotee' - creamy white, edged and freckled with deep purple; these beauties are sure to delight all who happen to spot them during those days of late winter and early spring. These hellebores are fully hardy, semi-evergreen, clump forming plants, which love a semi-shaded spot underneath a tree or shrub and thrive in moist, well-drained soil. Deer and rabbit resistant, they have an eventual height and spread of approximately 35cm x 35cm. Cut back the large leaves of the previous year once new foliage and flowers start to appear. Hellebores provide a rich source of nectar for solitary bees, whose awakening from hibernation coincides neatly with the blooming of these winter flowers. We are not the only ones pleased to see them!
