Tell Me More...
Helleborus orientalis ‘Single Apricot’ is an eye-catching new variety of hellebore for 2024. With its delicate peachy perfection, the glowing colours create a warm welcome in your winter and spring garden. Each petal, or sepal, is a work of art which encircles the prominent, central, crown like stamen. Beneath the blooms robust, dark green, glossy foliage is retained all year – though any faded leaves should be cut back so as not to detract from the beautiful blooms. The history of Helleborus orientalis date back to ancient times when Greek and Romans used plants medicinally. In the Middle Ages, blooms were a popular choice for religious ceremonies due its flowering around Lent (hence the common name). Helleborus underwent a surge of interest in the 1960s when many new varieties became available. Breeding continues to this day with newer and more intriguing flowers for any shadier nook. Helleborus orientalis ‘Single Apricot’ prefers moist, well-drained soil of any kind except sandy.
